Most of our map data comes from a project named OpenStreetMap. OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a free, community-driven map of the world that anyone can edit. It works like Wikipedia but for maps, allowing people to add roads, trails, buildings, and other details. OSM is used in apps and websites for navigation, outdoor activities, and humanitarian aid. Because it’s constantly updated by volunteers, it often has more detailed and up-to-date information than traditional maps, especially in remote or rapidly changing areas.
If a trail is incorrect or missing in Goat Maps, you can fix it yourself by editing OSM. There are many tutorials available for editing OSM, we like learnosm.org .
Goat Maps updates its map at least once a month. So while updates made to OSM will not appear in Goat Maps immediately, they will generally appear within a few weeks.
